The Vision
Franklin Road provides long term rental housing units suitable for two families plus a single individual/couple.
Affordability targets are 25% below market rents for two of the units (3 bedroom and studio/1 bedroom) with the third (2 bedroom laneway house) to be rented at or near market values to cross subsidize the more affordable units.
The project was made possible through a long term land lease with the Town of Gibsons (landowner), capital grant from BC Housing, $50,000 contribution from the Town of Gibsons’ Affordable Housing Reserve, a community fundraising effort with the goal of raising $50,000, and BC Housing mortgage.
Project Timeline
May 2018 - Council resolves to lease property to the Society.
July 2018 - Conceptual design presented at neighborhood information meeting. - Completed
November 2018 - Development Permit approved for Garden Suite - Completed
January 2019 - Building Permit application submitted. - Completed
April 2019 - Pre-Development Funding approved by BC Housing - Completed
July 2019 - Environmental Assessment completed to confirm Species at Risk will not be affected by development. Tree analysis completed. - Completed
September 2019 - BC Housing requests changes to design and budget. - Completed
March 2020 - Construction to begin - Completed
January 2021: Construction Finishes - Completed
February/March/April 2021: Landscaping and final details finish. Interviewed and selected applicants. Completed
May 2021: First residents moved in. Completed
