THE VISION

Situated on approximately four acres of land owned by the Town of Gibsons, the development will use approximately half of this land for the development of affordable family, workforce, and independent seniors rental housing.

The first phase (currently under construction) will provide 40 new rental units, housing approximately 100 people in a mix of unit types, from bachelor to 3 bedroom. A portion of the units will be rented at or near market rents in order to cross-subsidize more affordable units ensuring the financial sustainability of the project without dependence on ongoing operating subsidies.

The project is currently under construction and is expected to last 18 months with a planned opening in July of 2024. This will include a community green space and garden as well as our housing units. Please click here for information on how to apply. Please note applications will not be reviewed until a final date is set (we expect to review applications in May). This is to ensure that we have a confirmed move in date for tenants to allow them to plan their move.

Our Shaw Place Phase II development permit has been approved and we are currently working to secure funding. This will include an additional 33 units along with childcare. Please follow our social media to keep up to date with our construction and future projects!

Steps so far

STEPS SO FAR:

July 2019: Public Information Open House.

September 2019: Second and third reading of re-zoning application heard before Town of Gibsons. Public Hearing held at High Beam Dreams prior to third reading.

October 2019 - October 2020: Changes made from community feedback. Permits approved and preparation of final application.

November 2020 - October 2021: Final Application completed and submitted. Confirming final details and working with local partners in the hopes of beginning construction soon.

July 2022 - October 2022: Project was tentatively approved by BC Housing and CMHC. Final Development permit approved.

November 8th, 2022: Ground is broken and construction begins!

November 2022 - Summer 2024: Construction is expected to last 18 months.

Nov 2023: Shaw Phase II development permit is summited.

Dec 2023: Shaw Phase II development permits is approved. Work begins to secure funding.

2024: Construction continues. Projected to open September 1st.

July 2024 - Applications begin to process for September 1st opening.

Sept 2024 - Families move in. Construction on Phase II begins. Construction is projected to take 18 months.
